Pricing Principles

A woman and a girl are shopping at Helsinki Outlet, finding a new shirt for the girl

About our general pricing communication

At Helsinki Outlet, you'll always find better-value deals. In both our outlet stores and online shop, all products are consistently at least 30% cheaper than their recommended retail prices.

Our pricing communication is transparent and customer-friendly. We follow the Omnibus Directive, which clarifies the EU Consumer Protection Directive. As Finland’s only dedicated outlet centre, we benchmark our prices against other outlet and factory stores. All our products are always sold at outlet prices—meaning they’re lower than the brands’ standard recommended prices. We reserve the right to make changes in accordance with the Omnibus Directive

We do not use the recommended retail price as our comparison point. Instead, we always show either the outlet price or the lowest price from the relevant sales channel over the past 30 days. This ensures that our pricing is clear and fully transparent - always to the benefit of the customer.

Our core pricing principles

  • Always better value for money:We consistently offer premium brands at lower prices.
  • Extra discounts off the outlet price:All promotional prices are calculated based on the outlet price, not the recommended retail price.
  • 30-Day Price Comparison In-Store: Discounted prices in-store are compared to the lowest price for that product over the past 30 days.
  • Friends offers: Exclusive offers for Helsinki Outlet’s loyalty members are shared without the 30-day price restriction.

Cases when a reference price doesn’t need to be shown

The requirement to display a comparison price does not apply in the following cases:

  • Bulk discounts, for example "three products for the price of two"
  • Special offers on sale, such as "buy a coat, get gloves included"
  • Targeted discounts, such as loyalty discounts or discount codes for closed groups

Q&A on our pricing

What is the Omnibus Directive?

The Omnibus Directive refines the EU Consumer Protection Directive, making pricing and marketing more transparent for customers. It reduces misleading discount communications and requires the lowest price of a product to be indicated in discount communications.

Why do I no longer see "30-70% discount" messages?

In line with the Directive, we can no longer compare our prices to brands’ recommended prices. That’s why you won’t see messages like “30–70% off” in our communications anymore. Instead, our campaign prices are compared against the usual outlet price, which may result in smaller visible percentages—though the savings are still real. At Helsinki Outlet, all products are always at least 30% cheaper than the brands' recommended retail prices.

What do we mean by ‘Outlet Price’?

An outlet price is the typical selling price of a product in our outlet stores or online shop. This price is always at least 30% below the product’s recommended retail price.

What is an additional discount?

Our brands may offer extra discounts on their full range or on selected categories during campaigns or special events. These extra discounts are always calculated from the outlet price. For example, if a campaign says “20% off outlet price,” the discount applies directly to the already reduced outlet price.

Can I see the recommended price on the website?

Yes, the recommended price of a product can be shown as a separate price indication, but it will not be used as the reference price for the discount.

Can I see the recommended price of the product on the price label in the store?

As some of our brands are also sold to us in normal priced stores, the price tags may show the recommended price of the product alongside the outlet price. However, we always use the outlet price as a reference price, not the recommended price for brands.

What does the reference price mean in a shop?

The reference price is the lowest price of the product in the last 30 days in the relevant sales channel. If the product has not been sold at a higher price within 30 days, the reference price will be the outlet price of the product.

Does the Directive apply to Friends customers?

For a closed group, such as Helsinki Outlet Friends members, offers and benefits may be marketed without 30 days of lowest price information. This is possible because registration and downloading the app is required to take advantage of the offer.

When is the reference price not required?

You don’t need to see a comparison price in the case of bulk offers (e.g. “3 for the price of 2”), bonus product deals (e.g. “buy a coat, get gloves free”), or targeted loyalty discounts.
