The sky is not always clear, and people are not always healthy – Exhibition
In her solo exhibition Take Me Home at the gallery, "The sky is not always clear, and people are not always healthy." (Chinese proverb) Blomqvist painted a series of different horizontal views, spaces, and skies. Now some of the works can be seen in a new light in the corridor gallery at Helsinki Outlet.
The sky is not always clear, and people are not always healthy. That's how it must be. That’s how it is. It has been seen. It has been experienced. Both here on Earth and perhaps even in Heaven. Much has been accomplished, all sorts of painting themes have been invented. That is: earth and air. I merely invented the horizon — and even that wasn’t my own invention. If anything, I mostly painted skies. "There’s no shame in being a landscape painter," said the art teacher. Fine then. I return to the horizon.
The sky is like a person. Clear, in mist, restless, wild, very calm, chill. It’s in you — in fog, in flames, in ice — you exist in different weathers. There’s radiant brilliance, terrible storms, tormenting dark sleet storms, and sparkling starlit fireworks love.

Artist Krista Blomqvist
Krista Blomqvist is an art educator and painter (Master of Arts, 2020) who often explores the dialogue between chance and control in her work. What does it mean to create art through mastery and control in relation to the free flow of painting? Her works examine the role of randomness and intuition alongside conscious creation. The textures formed by layers of paint sometimes carry the painting forward almost on their own. Executed mainly with oil and acrylic paints, her works often verge toward the landscape in their expressiveness.
Krista Blomqvist has held both solo and group exhibitions since 2010. Her works have been exhibited in galleries in Helsinki, as well as in the art museums of Kuopio and Jyväskylä.
